Roseeta Stone English Review
Pros |
Cons |
Excellent user experience. Polished interface. Highly intuitive. Strong tech support. Mobile component for on-the-go learning. |
No cultural information. Language taught out of context. Expensive. |
Ease of Use
Compared to some other English learning software, Rosetta Stone is a breeze to use. Rosetta Stone’s user interface is an extremely easy one to use and visually pleasing at that, it is easy to navigate with well–labeled buttons.
Effectiveness
Rosetta Stone uses the time proven method of flash cards to teach English. This is effective: however, we feel the program doesn’t build a solid foundation of grammar. That’s why we highly commend Tell me More English or Rocket English.
Supports
Rosetta Stone provides good technical support to their customers. You can use the self–help options like tutorials, a user guide and other forms of online help or contact the customer support team by phone or email.
Rosetta Stone VS. Pimsleur
Which english learning program is better? Pimsleur or Rosetta Stone?
It depends on your style of learning, what you want to accomplish, how much you want to spend, how much time you have, but mostly your style of learning. All I can do is describe the two, point out the pros and cons of the Pimsleur courses and Rosetta Stone courses and hope you can decide which one is the best for you.
Pimsleur:
- All audio – You can listen and learn while you’re driving, talking a walk, exercising, or doing mindless house work. You still have to focus and listen, but you’re not tied to a book or computer. The focus is on listening and speaking.
- Bilingual – English and the new language
- Emphasis on conversation – After the very first lesson, you will be able to understand and take part in a simple and practical conversation.
- Short Lesson Spans – Each lesson is only 30 minutes long. It’s best to do only one lesson per day.
- Pimsleur Method: Based on two key principles: the Principle of Anticipation and “Graduated Interval Recall.”
Rosetta Stone:
- Audio and Interactive Element – The Rosetta Stone software teaches the new language in a variety of ways. This is good for both audio learners and visual learners. The student practices listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students need but are not limited to using a computer.
- Immersion – Everything is done in the foreign language. There are no explanations in English. Some people love this, others hate it.
- Many Short Lessons – A student can work on short lesson, less than 30 minutes, or study for several hours.
- Rosetta Stone Language Recognition Software – helps student work and improve pronunciation.
Final Words
Rosetta Stone language learning software isn’t perfect, but it’s the closest you can get to having the language speakers of a different country in your computer, ready and waiting whenever you’re interested in hearing from them. Knowing about the downsides of this language software can help you prepare: A basic grammar book, for example, and a pocket dictionary are useful companions that may be rarely used, but their presence still appreciated.
Once you’ve added a few basic tools like those mentioned above to your quiver of language learning possibilities, Rosetta Stone is indeed a valuable language learning tool.
In my opinions, pimsleur is perfect for conversational english learning and if you need a comprehensive english learning course, tell me more english will be a better choice than rosetta stone.
